Deptford's Republican Club History
Birth of the Republican Party
with a
Brief History of the Important Part Taken by the Original Republican Association of the National Capital
AN ADDRESS
Delivered By Lewis Clephane · 1889
Known mainly for its pig farms and ice production in its early days, Deptford Township remained rural until after World War II, when residential building exploded and local malls, movie theaters, restaurants, and other commercial development put the community on the map. Deptford Township explores this area's history with tales of Revolutionary War scout and hero Jonas Cattell, who was born and buried in Deptford, and the Clement Oak, under which the Lenni Lenape held council meetings.
Locally, the logo of a hot-air balloon celebrates North America's first aerial flight, which took place in 1793, when Jean Pierre Blanchard traveled 15 miles from Philadelphia to land 46 minutes later in a clearing on Clements Bridge Road. Also included are images of Deptford Day and the notorious honey hunt, a fundraiser held for the Almonesson fire department in the 1930s and 1940s.
Deptford Township Republican Club
Birth of the Club
A single person's desire to see that there had to be a change in our community and representation at our local government. Richard Nolan decided to join the local Deptford GOP and realized that there had not been one for many years. He decided in 2019 to restart the Deptford GOP Club. The growth was slow at first, but he did not quit. Then, in 2020 as he began to speak with people, the club began to grow into having an executive committee, and members, and now we have candidates for the upcoming primary and election.
Currently
The Deptford Republican Club is looking for new members and people to represent their district. There are 22 districts with 2 elected seats per district in Deptford Township. The club and committee have started having fundraising events to assist in supporting our township, local, and state candidates. We have some amazing members with many talents who are contributing to moving the GOP cause forward that will benefit all residents in Deptford, county, and state levels.
